When scrapping vehicles equipped with SRS airbags and seat belt pretensioners or disposing of a steering wheel pad (with airbag), front passenger airbag assembly, front seat back assembly (with side airbag assembly), curtain shield airbag assembly or front seat outer belts (with seat belt pretensioners), always first deploy the airbag and activate the seat belt pretensioners in accordance with the procedure described in the relevant Repair Manual.
Precaution
When deploying an SRS airbag or seat belt pretensioners, always use the specified SST SRS airbag deployment tool (09082-00700). Perform the operation at a place away from electrical noise.
When deploying an SRS airbag or seat belt pretensioners, perform the operation at least 10 m (33 ft) away from the steering wheel pad, front passenger airbag assembly, side airbag assembly, curtain shield airbag assembly or seat belt pretensioners.
The SRS airbags and seat belt pretensioners produce an exploding sound when they deploy, so perform the operation outdoors and where it will not create a nuisance to nearby residents.
The steering wheel pad (with airbag), front passenger airbag assembly, side airbag assembly, curtain shield airbag assembly and front seat outer belt (with seat belt pretensioners) become very hot when the airbags or seat belt pretensioners are deployed, so leave them alone for at least 30 minutes after deployment.
Use gloves and safety glasses when handling a steering wheel pad with deployed airbag, deployed front passenger airbag assembly, front seat outer belt with deployed seat belt pretensioners, deployed side airbag assembly or deployed curtain shield airbag assembly.
Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.
Do not apply water, etc. to a steering wheel pad with deployed airbag, deployed front passenger airbag assembly, front seat outer belt with deployed seat belt pretensioners, deployed side airbag assembly or deployed curtain shield airbag assembly.
Deploy an M-type airbag or seat belt pretensioners on a flat concrete area in a safe place outdoors.
After unlocking the sensor, take care not to jolt or drop the M-type airbag or seat belt pretensioners.
Always stand at least 5 m (16 ft) away from the M-type airbag or seat belt pretensioners when deploying it.
