What is a Brake Booster ?

1. General

The brake booster is a device that utilizes the difference between the engine vacuum and the atmospheric pressure to generate a strong force (power boost) that is proportional to the pedal depression force to operate the brakes. The brake booster uses the vacuum generated in the intake manifold (vacuum pump in the case of diesel engines).

The brake booster consists of the following components.

(6) Diaphragm spring

(7) Valve body

(8) Reaction disc

(9) Air cleaner
