Inspection method
Using a compression gauge, measure the compression pressure.
Criteria
The standard value differs depending on the engine model, therefore refer to the Repair Manual.
When compression pressure is low
Fill the cylinder with oil and check the change in the compression pressure.
• Does not change: cylinder head side
• Changes: cylinder block side
As a quick inspection for compression pressure, the following methods are available.
• Check whether or not the compressed air comes out of the plug hole when cranking.
• Check whether or not the cam shaft pulley rotates when cranking by looking through the service hole of the timing belt cover.
・A lack of compression due to a cut in the timing belt can be found by listening to the sound made when cranking.
