Headlight and Taillight System

1.Taillight system
There are two types of taillight system: a type in which the taillight is directly connected to the light control switch and a type with a taillight relay.
(1)Directly connected type
When the light control switch is moved to the TAIL position, the taillights come on.
(2)Taillight relay type
When the light control switch is moved to the TAIL position, current flows to the coil side of the taillight relay. The taillight relay turns on and the taillights come on.

Some models have a taillight system with a taillight indicator.

2.Headlight system
There are various types of headlight systems that differ according to whether they have electrical devices such as a headlight relay and dimmer relay. In general, when the dimmer switch is in the FLASH position, the circuitry is devised so as to turn on the lights even if the light control switch is in the OFF position.
(1)Type with neither headlight relay nor dimmer relay
Headlights (LO-beam)
When the light control switch is moved to the HEAD (LOW) position, the headlights (LO-beam) come on.
Headlights (HI-beam)
When the light control switch is moved to the HEAD (HIGH) position, the headlights (HI-beam) come on and the HI-beam indicator on the combination meter comes on.
Headlight FLASH
When the light control switch is moved to the FLASH position, the headlights (HI-beam) come on.

Some models have a headlight system with a headlight indicator.

(2)Type with headlight relay but no dimmer relay
Headlights (LO-beam) operation
When the light control switch is moved to the HEAD (LOW) position, the headlight relay turns on and the headlights (LO-beam) come on.
Headlights (HI-beam) operation
When the light control switch is moved to the HEAD (HIGH) position, the headlight relay turns on the headlights (HI-beam), and the HI-beam indicator on the combination meter comes on.
Series connection type of indicator
Current flows from the headlights (LO-beam) to the HI-beam indicator light and the indicator light comes on brightly.
Current is also flowing to the headlights (LO-beam), but as their resistance and current are low, they do not come on.
Headlight FLASH operation

(3)Type with both headlight relay and dimmer relay
Headlights (LO-beam) operation
When the light control switch is moved to the HEAD (LOW) position, the headlight relay turns on and the headlights (LO-beam) come on.
Headlights (HI-beam) operation
When the light control switch is moved to the HEAD (HIGH) position, the headlight and dimmer relays turn on, the headlights (HI-beam) come on, and the HI-beam indicator light on the combination meter comes on.
Headlight FLASH operation
When the light control switch is moved to the FLASH position, the headlight and dimmer relays turn on and the headlights (HI-beam) come on.
